Attention Students: Students are assigned horses with the number of horses rode per day depending on their ability and experience. Students may bring their own horses to add to the program or to use as practice. Students will receive daily instruction from Bonnie Becker on each horse. Some classroom work will be assigned. Job placement, counseling on student progress, improving public relation skills, and giving riding lessons are all part of the program. Colt breaking is an option.
Students
are put into a real horse trainer’s situation with hands on practical
work all week, including some optional weekend classes. Students work at
their own pace and at their own level. Beginner, intermediate, and
advanced training methods are taught, depending on the level of the
student and horse. Barn management and horse care skills are learned
seven days a week, improving efficiency, consistency, awareness,
punctuality, and organizational skills. A high standard of care is
always expected.
Students are
responsible for grooming, tacking up, training, cooling out, bathing,
clipping, cleaning stalls and feeding their assigned horses. Weekend
chores are done by alternating groups of students. Students receive
every second weekend off and are required to work some holidays.
Guest instructors are invited
regularly and many special events are planned for the term. Students
alternate going to shows with Bonnie (optional). A video camera may be
used as a teaching aid. All methods taught are safe and humane. A certificate will be awarded upon graduation.
Students must be 18 years of age to be accepted into the school.
The length of the school term
varies according to students. Students may take a second term for more
advanced training. Private furnished dorm rooms are available with the
use of a fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry facility.
Satellite TV and Internet access are included as well. Students have use
of all stable facilities, including a 100’ x 210’ heated indoor riding
arena
